Hi All, I am looking for best practices when it comes to keeping passwords stored. Looking for ways to store passwords for end users Security.Windows 8 and 10 allow you to mount an iso file as a virtual drive which I find is improvement over 7, though I never like 8 because it opened the start menu like a window, which I found annoying. Once its done, it will ask to shutdown and have you unplug the old drive and plug in the SSD, then you can replug the old drive to see if you can retrieve any files left on the old drive assuming it wasn't wiped.Īnyways GL on the migration. you can use the old one after the migration is complete, the Samsung Migration Data Tool says it would wipe the old drive, but I notice the old drive when I did this awhile ago (but it was SSD to a larger SSD), was still there, so it may or may not delete the files after the migration. ![]() If there is more stuff you want to keep than what the SSD is capable of storing, I would move it to a external or spare drive. personally I don't use the virtual memory on the C:\ and move it to another drive if your setup/rig has more than one drive to use. If you have a large amount of data it will allow you to choose which ones you want to keep, the software won't migrate the hibernation file or page/virtual memory files as Windows should be able to reconfigure that. To do this you need to plug in the Samsung SSD in a sata or USB config., then install the Samsung Data Migration Tool software and it will auto detect your C:\ drive and the Samsung drive you want to migrate to. If it's Samsung SSD then I would use their Migration Data software, since it should be fairly simple to use and get your machine up and running on the SSD. I researched this because I wanted to rebuild an old desktop I have laying around at home, but you can't use the free upgraded product key of the free windows 10 upgrade on new hardware, which is kinda a bummer for me. If you did a free upgrade and want to new hardware, it probably won't work, but if it's the same hardware and only the storage hardware changed then it it should be possible. ![]()
